ST LUKES SUMMER FETE
The St Luke’s Summer Fete is coming soon. Join us on Saturday 26th July between 1pm-4pm for garden games, stalls, face-painting, refreshments, and a chance to meet your neighbours.
This year our fete will include the legendary St Luke’s Slip n Slide. To find out more about how to take part have a look at our Slip n Slide FAQ’s below.
-
St Luke’s Church is fortunate to have beautiful gardens surrounding the building, and we love to see them used for the benefit of the community. This year, we’re bringing the joy with a tarpaulin and a hose—turning one of our hills into a family-friendly Slip n Slide!
-
The Slip n Slide is designed with primary-school-aged children in mind, but children of other ages are very welcome too.
Pre-School Children
Pre-schoolers are welcome to slide at the discretion of their parent or guardian. Adults may accompany them down the slide if they wish.
Older Children and Teens
Older children and teens are welcome! If the slide gets busy, we may introduce timed sessions for different age groups to keep everyone safe and happy.
-
Nope—it’s completely free! We do, however, require parent or guardian permission for all riders.
-
No booking is needed. Just show up, provide the necessary parent/guardian permission, and you’re good to go.
-
Once signed up, riders can slide as many times as they like—with their parent or guardian’s supervision. At peak times, we may temporarily limit rides or run timed age sessions to manage numbers safely.
-
The hose will be running—so you’ll definitely get wet! We recommend wearing a T-shirt and shorts or leggings to reduce friction and help protect your skin while sliding.
-
Yes, there will be limited family changing facilities available, operated on a one-in, one-out basis. There may be a queue. We recommend arriving ready to slide—and perhaps heading home wrapped in a towel!
-
As with any physical activity, there are some risks involved, but we’ve taken care to minimise them.
• The slide will be monitored by volunteers and church staff.
• Simple rules will be in place to keep things fun and safe.
• All riders must have parent/guardian permission and agree to our waiver before sliding.
• Supervision by a parent or guardian is required at all times.
-
No. To keep the slide accessible for everyone, especially those with sensitive skin, we won’t be using bubbles—just water and gravity!
-
We want as many children as possible to enjoy the slide. If your child has additional needs and you’d like to talk with us about how we can support their participation, please get in touch.
-
This is a water-based event, so light rain won’t stop us! In the case of severe weather (thunderstorms or high winds), we may pause or cancel the slide for safety reasons. We’ll update you on the day if this happens.
-
There is limited parking available at the church, accessible from Hatfield Road. If possible, please consider walking or cycling.
