Youth Alert - Liz Richardson
Dear Church Family,
If you were in Church last Sunday will you will have seen the commissioning of Maeve, Martha & James as they leave us to go off to University or Gap year. Jamie & I have worked with these young people (& each other!) for many years & it’s wonderful to see the admirable young people they’ve become. Please pray for them in the weeks ahead as they begin this exciting yet daunting journey. We hope they’ll come back & visit (often!).
But although we’ve lost 3, we’ve gained 3 from Explorers. Please pray for us as we form as a new group and for any others who join us over the coming months. We now meet weekly in the Youth Lounge, so Jamie & I are grateful to be joined by Tim Packer & Esther Way in this vital work.
This term’s programme was inspired by my time in Keswick, so we’re looking at Jesus through 4 different things. One a month.
The feet of Jesus…what a hiker! .Where did he go? Baptism & Temptations
Why did he go? Often to pray alone. The importance of prayer. Lord’s prayer
What happened ? At the home of Simon the Pharisee. Preparing for Jesus &Making templates of our feet, thinking of the new academic year begun.
October..The ears of Jesus, November…..the hands of Jesus & December…the eyes of Jesus, thinking about Advent.
We also hope to get involved in St Luke’s Together in any way we can eg, prayers, readings, acting.
Beginning this new academic year, we’re introducing a half termly Youth Gathering for older members of the group on a Sunday evening at 5pm. This will be more of a clubbable vibe with food, chat, happenings, It’s already been suggested that we might do a singalong Sound of Music?!Its hoped that commitments permitting James , Maeve & Martha might be able to come along. The first one is at 5pm on Sunday 12th October.
Our group is now always upstairs for the beginning of the service & we come back for Communion (apologies if we ‘as a gang’ walk in front of you. I sometimes think we do ). So do have a chat to our young people if you get the chance. And please, PRAY for all of us as often as you can.
John 10v10 ‘I come that you might have life, & life in all its fullness’ That’s what we want for those in our care.
Liz & the Gang
