Introducing The Orchestra of Everything Foundation

If you’ve been keeping up with our regular newsletters and blogs, you might remember that way back in May, as part of our Partnership with the missional and charitable bodies we asked you to help us choose a new partner who we could support on a short term basis. A number of you took the time to bring some really interesting and exciting submissions to our attention, so thank you to everyone who took the time to send something in.

It has taken us a little longer than we had hoped to get everything set up, but I am really pleased to announce that this year as part of St Luke’s Missional Giving day, in addition to our two long-standing missional partners, LUX and Five talents, we are going to be supporting the work of The Orchestra of Everything Foundation.

Over the next couple of weeks we will have an opportunity to hear from the charities we are going to be supporting on Sunday mornings and so will get to think about the Orchestra of Everything together, but here, to introduce us to the foundation, our very own Katie Weymouth-Smith and orchestra of everything volunteer, has written us a post:

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll have the opportunity to hear from all three of the organisations we’re supporting on Sunday mornings, and to think together about the work they’re doing and what it means for us at St Luke’s.

But first, to introduce us to The Orchestra of Everything, our very own Katie Weymouth-Smith, who volunteers with the foundation, has written this post.

Introducing The Orchestra of Everything Foundation

The Orchestra of Everything Foundation is built on a simple idea: every child should have the chance to experience the joy, connection and life-changing possibilities of making music.

Bath is rich in music and culture, but those opportunities are not equally available to every child. For some families, the cost of instruments, lessons and activities places music beyond reach. The Foundation is helping to change that by providing free, high-quality tuition and instruments to primary-school children, particularly those facing social or economic disadvantage.

By bringing music directly into schools, the Foundation removes the practical barriers that can prevent children from taking part. They can learn, practise and perform together without their families having to find extra money, time or resources. Supported by professional teachers, volunteers, schools and the wider community, children are given the encouragement and opportunity they need to flourish.

The transformation can be remarkable. A child who once felt uncertain or overlooked may discover the pride of mastering a new skill, the thrill of performing and the joy of creating something beautiful alongside others. With every rehearsal and shared performance, music helps build confidence, concentration, resilience and a deep sense of belonging.

Learning an instrument is not always easy. There are wrong notes, frustration and moments when progress feels painfully slow. But each challenge overcome becomes a quiet lesson in courage. Children learn to try again, to trust the process and to understand that setbacks do not define them. Gradually, they begin to see that they are capable of far more than they first imagined.

For me, it is not about creating professional musicians. It is about giving children the opportunity to discover the joy of music and the many benefits that come with it, ensuring that their circumstances never determine whether they get to experience it.
