Coffee Mornings at St Luke’s - Brenda Mandeville
Our coffee mornings are a great opportunity to welcome people into our church building and to show God’s love for everybody through warm, generous hospitality. If you enjoy proper coffee, cakes and meeting people, it’s an occasion not to be missed. They run approximately every three weeks on a Friday morning between 10 and 12 noon.
We want everyone to come and feel welcome and to enjoy good coffee, cakes and company. Some of the attendees are members of the congregation, some are the local community and others come from further afield. Some come with friends or family, others on their own. Regardless, every time there seems to be a warm buzz of conversation that includes everyone.
As well as coffee we serve various teas and squash for children. There is a choice of homemade cakes and we aim always to have a gluten- and dairy-free option.
The format is simple: come into church, get a coffee (or tea), choose a delicious homemade cake, sit down at one of tables and have a chat. There’s always someone to chat to and often someone there that you did not expect to see.
We make no charge for drinks or cake (or seconds). If you wish to be generous there is a donation basket (or the card machine) so you may to make a donation to the charity of the day.
You’ve just missed the last coffee morning of 2025, but we’ll be back in the New Year on 16th January. Then there’ll be the added treat of David playing the piano. (The Pump Room has nothing on us!).
A small team, supported by generous bakers, run these coffee mornings. We would love to have a few more people join us. Ideally, we would like someone who could help regularly (but not necessarily every single coffee morning), and a couple of others who would be willing to provide cover for holidays, illness, appointments etc. The commitment is just for the coffee mornings themselves - from about 9.30 to 12.30. Please do speak to me if you interested. It’s a really enjoyable thing to do.
