Confirmation at Wells Cathedral - Diana Cox
My name is Diana Cox. I have not been attending St. Luke’s very long so have not had the chance to meet many of you yet, but look forward to doing so in the not-too-distant future.
I have, over the years, often had thoughts about being confirmed but, like a lot of people, “things get in the way and your thoughts are overtaken and put on hold. However, shortly after attending St. Luke’s I asked Matt about being confirmed and how to go about it. I was amazed when he told me he thought there was to be a confirmation service at Wells Cathedral in October, and he would find out the details. Since then, my feet have not touched the proverbial ground in that I was bale to meet with Matt to discuss the whole concept of confirmation, why I wanted it to happen, my reasons etc. This has been a learning curve.
I was also thrilled, when I was meeting with some school friends, I announced I was to be confirmed the all asked, “can we come to the service to celebrate” with me. We have been friends for a very long time, but I was surprised at their immediate and excited response. My niece Carol and her husband Peter also came to Wells and, I think, were equally excited but the occasion. Anyway, on Saturday 18th October 2025, I was confirmed by the Bishop of Bath and Wells in a beautiful service in the cathedral.
Through the discussions with Matt, I have reinforced my belief how important family is, not just our immediate family but in the wider sense. All the teaching we discussed seemed to keep coming back to The Family, the fact that we love the members of our family unconditionally, we will protect them with all our strength, and you realise this is Jesus’ teaching but His was the ultimate sacrifice. I feel if we have these solid core things radiate outwards and hopefully touch other people both in receiving goodness from us and in doing so passing this on to others, so things spread and grow.
I am so glad I asked Matt about confirmation because in such a short space of time this has been achieved for me with his help. It has given me the opportunity to share in a wonderful experience which will be with me for the rest of my life.
