No mow May

Do you enjoy mowing your lawn? They say that tidiness in next to godliness, but Plantlife disagree, and in a campaign supported by the National Trust amongst others, are suggesting you leave your lawnmower in the shed.

The primary goal is to allow our lawns to be homes for a variety of pollinating plants, not just a desert of grass.

The RSPB go further, and suggest we Give our mowers a rest to encourage wildlife.

If you are interested in how your garden - not just the lawn - might better support pollinators, have a look at the Royal Horticultural Society guide.

This isn’t just for the benefit of wildlife. We depend on pollinators for food production, so we benefit too. Have a look at this simple BBC guide to the value of the honey bee, or this Friends of the Earth article .
